Joep van Lieshout

One of the assignement I had for my intership was to make a protrait of the Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout. I like to use in my linoprint two or more colours. Usually I make two apart pieces of linoleum like on this work. But last time I discovered how nice is to use just the reduction technique.

Looking for a Muse. Asking the Masters.

Not every face is enough inspiring to make a portrait of. The face should show the life, the experiences. To me the most important thing of portraiture is to catch the charisma of the person on it. Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, one of the greatest expressionistic portraitists in XXth centaury, said: "What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race."
I'm still not enough experienced to find it in every person. But I am exercising on friends with very strong personality like for instance Vivianna a very good friend of mine. She is the Muse.

By this work I was inspired by the movie "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". The best ever made western's films.
